Search Engine Marketing (SEM)


What Is It?

Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is similar to search engine marketing, yet very different in terms of the cost and natural search results.  SEM is paid placement of a website in order to get it to the top of the "sponsored links" section of search engines. Pay-per-click marketing involves careful setup, strategic writing, and bidding for keyphrases to effect optimal positioning under "sponsored" results.


Why Get SEM?

Sponsored links are a great way to make sure your site is going to be at the top.  This is normally used for sites that are looking to get their site at the top for specific targeted searches.  For example, if you are starting up a new website called "bobjoeweddingphotography.com", with simple SEO, your site will not pop up at the top when people type in something as popular and vague as "Wedding Photography".  For this reason, you would want to get SEM to get your site sponsored.
